Request Spot

The good news, you will no doubt be thrilled to hear, is that I have apparently started doing requests. The bad news is that the request wasn't to stop. Sit down while I tell you a tale...

See, it appears that I know a guy. This in itself is not particularly strange, even for me. However this guy apparently knows some other guy. Again, I understand this is fairly common. But the guy in question is apparently in the process of manufacturing a miniatures game of some description. And so it was that the first guy (that is the one I actually know) presented me with a handful of tiny metal objects, purloined through nefarious and no doubt drunken means from the second guy, and asked me if I could try painting them.

Now, the thing is that whilst I was given a handful of the miniatures to play with, I wasn't given much else. such as what the hell any of these things are actually supposed to BE. Or which ones go with which other ones. Or even the name of the goddamn system so I could at least google it.

But what the hell, I like a challenge. I'd prefer a blowjob, but sadly no one was offering one of those. I guess I'll just have to do the challenge part instead.
The first thing I noticed was that the minis in question are all epic scale. Or, for those who didn't have a childhood bank balance abused by Games Workshop, somewhere around the 5mm mark. That is they are VERY small. That's fine though. Makes for a grand type of game with lots of tanks and mechs. The only real pain in such system is if you have to paint lots of infantry.

Guess what type of piece I was presented with?

So, a quick delve into the bits box to see if I had anything I could actually base these tiny fuckers on and we were all set to begin.

First up some... Tanky robot dudes? Probably? I think that's what they are, and I'm pretty sure that I've got them facing the right way around. Without any sort of reference material though who can say? But this is the side with nobbly bits that are probably gun ends and sensors, so that's what I went with. Painting wise I decided to try and keep things simple. I drybrushed silver over a black base coat, inked in blue and then highlighted in silver again. Other details were touched in with a bit of green or red or whatever to make them stand out. All in all they came out pretty okay. They were a bit of a bitch to prep though as they were slightly to big to fit on a standard GW epic infantry base. Also they suffered from some rather fiddly flash, particularly underneath the arms. That was a bugger to get out.

Then we had some generic space marine type dudes. I'm fairly sure that from the colour scheme you can guess which popular FPS franchise I have been playing of late. Like I said, it's not like I was given much else to go on. So yeah, painted green, highlighted lighter green. Touch in the weapons silver and the visors yellow. The main problem with these guys is the weapons. At least one of them has some sort of knife, but the others seem to have had either some casting issues or damage. It could even be that the other hand was supposed to hold a knife as well, but again who knows? These are probably test castings anyway.

More space trooper type guys. These reinforce the notion that these are test castings due to the lack of both weapons and hands to hold them on many of the pieces. Unless this system has something called Stump Troopers. But really at this scale it's not a huge problem. I decided to try doing these guys in a sort of desert colour scheme. Mainly because even I wasn't about to paint all these things up as Master Chief. They have green strip across the visor purely because it seemed like a good idea at the time. A lot of these minis seem to have big back packs. I'm not sure if this is because everyone has a jump pack, or it's meant to be like Space Marine Power Armour or what.

So if the units above are like Space Marine clones then I guess these guys are Chaos Space Marine clones? I honestly have no idea but they have skull heads so I based them up together and did them in black. Of course, I have no idea what the hell they are supposed to be, so maybe when they're painted up in the proper scheme they'll seem a little less generic. I'm pretty sure they aren't ACTUALLY Chaos Space Marines after all. They could be Chaplains, or maybe Legion Of The Damned.

Then we have these guys who didn't quite fit in with any of the others. I suppose I could have tried basing them up individually, but at this scale that would look daft. So we have another Space Marine type, but going by the narrower waist and prominent bazoombas possible a female one? The there's some burly mohawk type dude, who I'm sure is nothing to do with House Goliath whatsoever. Finally and most interesting we have some guy riding a lizardy thing. And really that's as specific as I can get, because I lack any context whatsoever to judge these things in. It's actually quite a nice piece, and probably my favourite out of all of them.

And I'm not just saying that because it's the biggest one.

Anyway, there we are. I feel like I should discuss these a little more, but really, I have no idea what I could say. I simply don't know enough about the project to to really offer much insight. For example, I don't know ANYTHING.

Now, don't say I never do anything for you.
