To Rapidly Perambulate With A Noticeable Absence Of Illumination

Shadowrun then. I loves me some Shadowrun. Not that I ever really got to play it all that much outside of the SNES game, but I've always loved the setting and have quite a few of the novels. So, having completed various other mini painting projects I realized that, holy shit, I could try painting some Shadowrun minis!

So a quick trip to ebay later and I secured myself a couple of blisters. First up are the Angels Of Death...
Now, after getting these characters I thought I'd have a quick google around to try and find something about about them, as theoretically it might be helpful to know what they were supposed to look like before painting them. I mean, they appear to be a group of female metahumans with violent tendencies, but beyond that I had little to go on. Sadly I found nothing, outside the usual levels of deeply traumatizing pornography one would usually expect. Thus I was on my own.

The first one I tried was the elf. Better to get it out of the way I thought to myself. I am not overly fond of elves as a species after all. However this turned out to be a good place to start. 25MM is surprisingly tricky to work in, at least for one such as myself who is more accustomed to 28MM. However elf bint here was fairly sraightfoward, or at least not overly complex. Pale skin, light grey hair and a camo sort of vibe for the clothes. I did the body armour in plain green, which initially looked pretty crap. Then I added some black triangles over the top to break it up and suddenly it started working. I cannot deny that I was thinking of the Colonial Marines from Aliens at the time.

Then there was the Dwarven Sniper. After moaning about how tricky I was finding 25MM just imagine my joy at moving onto someone even smaller than usual. Then imagine my shock at it not being nearly that bad to do. I was actually quite pleased by the time I was finished.

Now things got tricky again. Being somewhat more heavy set than the elf, I figured this girl was probably an Orc. At least that's how I decided to paint her. I suppose Orcs are generally a bit lumpier, but this wouldn't be the first time a certain degree of artistic license was employed on the female version. Anyway, I wanted to have a go with at the rather tan hued skin tone I had in mind, which was based on the Shadowrun Duels figures decorating my kitchen. I'm not quite sure what class she's meant to be. Hooker with a power glove seems a bit.... specific. However since she was giving off a bit of a hooker vibe I decided to have a go at doing makeup. Just black around the eyes and red lips, but it looks alright to me. I figured the streak of blue in the hair helps give it a slightly more 80s vibe. And let's be honest, ALL cyberpunk is inherently 80s.

Case in point, whatever the hell this person is supposed to be. Again, struck me as kinda orcish, so thats what I went for. So she's meant to be some sort of gladiator or something? With a robot monkey? I must confess I have no idea what the point of wearing power armour is when you leave your thighs exposed. No major arteries in that area at all. That being the case I figured it must be worn for show, so I decided to do the whole thing in gold to be as gauche and tacky as possible. Like I said earlier, 80s. Despite being the largest of the four, this one actually seemed to be the hardest to do. Possibly because of that nonsensical armour. I just can't take anyone in chainmail underwear seriously.
